"El Cuento de Los Abuelos"

Aloha! Carol and I are going to Hawaii in 9 short days to celebrate our 25th anniversary and my 50th birthday. I'll ring in 50 by swimming for fifty minutes, biking for fifty miles, and running for fifty minutes all on the official Ironman World Championship course in Kona, Hawaii. We'll also do some romantic thing for our anniversary I'm sure. Just kidding, both days will be special for us.

I also have a speaking engagement lined up at the Straub Medical Center on Oahu, right down the street from Pearl Harbor. Can't wait for that either.

The Lansbery Recipe File

Debera has been kind enough to take time out of her busy schedule, (what am I saying, she's retired,) to scan the Lansbery/Sankey Family Recipe Book for me and I'd like to share some of the recipes with you from time to time.

This classic is found in the "Main Dish" section:

Lazy Day Stew--Marion Lansbery

2 lbs. raw beef cubes put in a roaster in a single layer. Add whatever veggies you want plus 1 8oz. can of tomato sauce, 8oz. water and 1 tsp. sugar. Add salt, pepper, garlic and onion salt to taste. (In the heart healthy version you can omit the sugar, salt and sub garlic and onion powder. If you want the anti-heart healthy version throw in a glob of lard.) Add 2 tsp. quick tapioca over the top, seal with foil and put in the oven @ 350 for 2.5 hours.

Bon appetite!

October 2009 Edition--Part 2

How's the weather in your neck of the woods? The Bend folks were treated to a little white stuff (from the sky that is,) earlier this month. This picture was provided by Jesse and Rachel.

In Post Falls news, Sunset Island has been packed away for the winter. Alas! In a related story, Jody has started physical therapy on his shoulder and was threatening to mow the lawn. Maybe he should save his strength for snow shoveling . . . Speaking of shoveling, what's Laurie been up to?

October 2009 Edition--Jackson Special

Hello everyone. Please excuse the delay as I was waiting for the blessed event before posting.

By now I'm sure you all know Tracy and Jennifer are the proud parents of Jackson William Skidmore, born 9:21 am mst 19.5 inches 6 lbs 9 oz. As Tracy himself put it:

"Son, wife and I are home. What an experience. I hate to say it but I forgot all about what goes into have a baby. Jen and Jackson are doing well. Jackson is a living, breathing, crying, sleeping boob-sucking, and pooping machine! Gotta love it!"

A big Lansbery congratulations is in order!
